Local produce
On both banks of the Rhône, at 200 and 400 meters in altitude, in both the departements of Haute-Savoie and Ain, are the beautiful hilly vineyards of Seyssel.
On glacial alluvium or sandstone sloping gently down to the Rhône, enjoying a particulary favorable climate in this part of the valley, with a good exposition, lays the home of one of the oldest "appellations d'origine" in France, at the foot of the Alps, Seyssel wines.
It was in the Xth century that these vines were first written about, but it was the monks of Arvières who from the XIVth century developped the vineyards, wihch were at their peak, in the XIXth century.
The "appellation" area covers Corbonod, Seyssel Ain and Seyssel Haute-Savoie. Seyssel is also one of the oldest AOC in France.
Beware ; the abuse of alcohol is dangerious to health. To be consumed moderately.
